2026 Report to the State
Each year, the Northern Lights Council presents a Report to the State to the Governor of North Dakota, highlighting the impact of Scouting across our state. This annual event, sponsored by the Bismarck Rotary Club, provides an opportunity to showcase the achievements of our Scouts and the positive difference Scouting continues to make in communities throughout North Dakota.
The 2026 Report to the State is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Bismarck. Please note that this date is subject to the Governor’s availability. If the date changes, the event will take place on a different Wednesday in February. The final date will be confirmed by January.
Scout Participation
A key part of this event is the involvement of Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA members, Venturers, and Explorers from across North Dakota. Selected youth take on meaningful roles during the report, such as giving the invocation, leading the Pledge of Allegiance, introducing the Governor, and sharing the story of Scouting in their communities. For many, it’s an inspiring and memorable experience that reflects the pride and spirit of Scouting.
Nomination and Selection Details
We invite unit leaders and parents to nominate Scouts for this unique opportunity. Scouts from North Dakota will be selected from the pool of nominations based on their performance and participation in Scouting, extracurricular involvement, special honors, and overall character. Those selected, along with a parent and unit leader, should plan to travel to Bismarck and arrive by 11:00 a.m. Participants will take part in the lunch program and the formal report presentation.
After lunch, Scouts will have the option to join a guided tour of the North Dakota State Capitol building and meet with state leaders. In past years, Scouts have had the opportunity to meet with the Chief Justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court, the Secretary of State, and other officials. Visits for 2026 will be confirmed at a later time. The program typically concludes by 4:00 p.m. All Scouts must attend in full uniform.
To nominate a Scout for participation, please complete the nomination form and submit it by Friday, January 2, 2026. Scouts selected to participate will be notified by Friday, January 9, 2026, via email.
